WHY THE DELAY IN TRANSITION?

The KNUST SRC Election was held on 5th of August, 2021 and the Electoral Commission led by Mr Emmanuel Obeng Awuah declared Master Michael Abuah the President-Elect after polls were closed.

The SRC Constitution clearly stipulates the period in which transition is expected to begin. It states that, “the transition period shall begin three days after the declaration of the results of the general election and end immediately after a new SRC is sworn into office.

A day or two after declaration, DSK Acquaah refused to accept the results of the election due to what he call discrepancies that occurred during the process. Date and time for the hearing was set-up but was postponed due to reasons known to the Judicial Committee.

The date for the hearing was never made public again until few weeks ago when the President-Elect released a communique that he has set up his transition team which was supposed to be done three days after elections as stipulated in the KNUST SRC Constitution as amended 2021.

It is alleged that the Judicial Committee has had several meetings and sat on the case within two days at the DOS Conference Room.

Why is the JC and the SRC keeping students in the dark? Until when do we expect to see the transition team of the outgoing SRC?

Why is the JC delaying with the court hearing? When will the final verdict be made known to the public?

Is the SESAH-led administration trying to hold on to power? What is preventing them from beginning the transition process?

The silence of this administration is too loud and we demand answers to the above questions and more.

We must defy this odd!
