Covid-19: KNUST Management Supports International Students On Campus


The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kwesi Obiri-Danso, and Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) have donated 800 bags of sachet water to International students living on KNUST campus.

Donating the items to the President of the International Students’ Association (ISA-KNUST), the Dean of Students’, Professor Wilson Agyei Agyare said that, the gesture is part of efforts by Management to support International Students on Campus. According to the Dean of Students’,   water is an essential commodity and that the lack of it is likely to cause students to move around, as such Management has decided to supply all International students living on campus with water to limit their movements; thereby preventing the possibility of they been infected.

Professor Agyare noted that the supply of water forms part of many other necessities given to the International Students during this period of a public health emergency. He observed that the provision of counseling and psychosocial support and education on preventive measures outlined by the University Health Services and the Ministry of Health, regular visitation by Management to ascertain their welfare, the establishment of WhatsApp platforms to provide timely information to parents and other care services are in place to ensure their wellbeing.

Receiving the water on behalf of the students, Enyindah Increase, President of the International Students’ Association, observed that, since the lockdown of the country and suspension of academic work on campus, International students have received tremendous support from the University Management. He expressed gratitude to Management for their immense help in the wake of this pandemic.

Master Enyindah further expressed the hope that all leaders across Africa and the world at large will work together to fight the pandemic to restore normalcy. He thanked the University Health Services, the Counselling Unit and the Office of the Dean of Students for being there any time they needed them.

Master Enyindah Increase urged his colleague students to continue to observe the guidelines provided by the University Health Services and the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of the virus and called on parents of International students to remain calm.
