ARTICLE: Is The Faculty Of Social Sciences Dying?

The faculty of social sciences, without mincing words, is indeed among one of the prestigious faculties in KNUST. Under this faculty is the Social Sciences Society (SOCIOSO) whose leadership is a representation of students. This leadership is to fight for the welfare of students in the faculty, just as the SRC. But what is the current administration doing in order to improve the standards set by their predecessors? It's a question I leave the Prince Opoku Fofie's administration to judge. Leaders come and go but their legacies remain forever, being remembered by generations. So what's he going to be remembered for?

During his campaign, Master Prince, the current president of the faculty, preached the mantra, "Positive Reformation." I wonder if we are yet to be reformed positively. What was his motive for running the second time?  Was it just to become the president of the faculty, or to be a vital human resource for our faculty? As the Ghanaian adage states, "if you don't put something at it exact spot, it falls down," I would encourage the current administration to deviate from the custom of holding on to their positions and stop being in a state of slumber.

We the students of the faculty don't really know what this administration is about. Nowadays, academics is being distorted due to the poor administration. Is it that the faculty, as large as it is, cannot make provision for projectors, speakers and microphones? Yet, we have elected a leader(s) to make things right, so they settle in their elements. Has the faculty run low on finance or certain ideologies have been spearheaded by the administration, neglecting the prime needs?

Master Prince Opoku Fofie, are you proud that your only achievement is the painting of the buildings at Central Classroom Block (CCB), the fixing louver blades and the planting of grasses in the middle of CCB? What has happened to the so-called gospel you preached; something you titled policies. It's indeed explicit that you have nothing significant to portray to the student populace of this noble faculty as you leave office - something which has really affected the activities and lives of students in a positive way. Abraham Lincoln once said," nearly all men can stand adversity but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." I say without fear or favour, that the current administration has failed, and it's just fulfilling the notion of "I was there some."

Mr President, have in mind that an empty stomach is not a good political adviser. The faculty is a miniature of the national governance and I would entreat you to serve it with honesty, at least for the months left. I would want to be brief in my statement, as my worries have been made known. I write the right, not to be a thorn in one's flesh.
