The Federation of Ghana Medical Laboratory Students Hold Their Maiden Labprenuership Seminar


FG-MELSA, the mother body for all Medical Laboratory Students across the country has organized a Laboratory Entrepreneurship Seminar on the campus of one of its member association institutions Royal Ann College of Health, Kumasi-Ghana (RACOH).

This seminar which had the theme “THE STARTUP; BECOMING YOUR OWN BOSS” was very much anticipated by the students of the association and even attracted other sister Medical Laboratory Science Students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Garden City University College (GCUC) and the hosting institution RACOH which was their maiden edition of hosting a national program by the Federation. Labprenuership being a breakthrough seminar for Laboratory Science Students recorded a high regional attendance of 389 students and resource persons, out of whom 292 were female participants. This statistics showed that there has been an enhancement of female participation by 65% and about 57% total as compared with the previous year.

The seminar was manned by resource persons such as, CEO for Diacon Medical Supplies Dr Clement Bekoe, who was also the Chairperson for the seminar. "Enterprenuership is one of the best options regardless of your area of study", he mentioned. Dr Abudul Rahamani, President for the Labprenuership Network of Ghana also graced the occasion with his presence. "There are millions of opportunities in our area of work  and outside our comfort zone. Count yourself lucky for making it to this seminar" he stressed. Dr Rahamani revealed about two hundred additional opportunities in Medical Laboratory Science. Senior Accountant at Medilab GMIC, Kumasi Mr Stephen Adjei took participants through “How to Overcome the Challenges of Entrepreneurship”. He mentioned "Failure is a part of the journey. You would surely fail in one way or the other, and this should give you the needful experience to excel. Lessons from ups and downs have contributed so much to my business and social life especially”. He entreat participants to remain focused and seek guidance and directions whenever there is the need.

The Vice President for the Professional Body, MLS Robert Kpodo commended the students' front for their enthusiasm  and pragmatism in the journey to transform the Medical Laboratory Profession. He urged members of the federation to give leadership their maximum support and attention, and to participate in such and equally important programmes. He mentioned that leadership of the Professional Body and all members who are alumni of FG-MELSA are very proud of the good works by the federation under the current administration especially. The National Executive Council of the federation, led by the President Hon Frederick Ennin showed appreciation for the massive  turnout and contributions of members and thanked all resource persons for their effort for a very successful seminar. "We have all learnt so much and I strongly believe that this seminar has impacted everyone to energized our potentials, I hope to see you leading a transformation" - Hon Frederick Ennin said. He asked that members continue to support and show encouraging participation in future events by the federation which he believes shall raise higher the flag of FG-MELSA.

    This will show some kind of belonging of all institutions.
