Department of Pharmacy- KNUST
The KNUST Chapter of the Ghana Pharmaceutical Students Association (GPSA) is set to observe the World Diabetes Day today at the Faculty of Pharmacy in line with World Health Organizing (WHO) program outlines. The department has taken it upon themselves to create more awareness about this disease so as to prevent any sudden contraction which may result in many unpleasant cases.

The department has given several outlines to serve as guidelines in attaining massive attention on the dreadful disease. Some include;

Diabetes mellitus commonly called, "Sugar Disease" a condition in which the body does not produce enough of the hormone insulin, resulting in high levels of sugar in the bloodstream. There are many different types of diabetes; the most common are Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes mellitus is linked with an increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, poor blood circulation to the legs and damage to the eyes, feet and kidneys. Early diagnosis and strict control of blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels can help to prevent or delay the complications associated with diabetes. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle (regular exercise, eating healthily and maintaining a healthy weight) is important in reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

The Department will be open today for a talk about this  today at the Faculty of Pharmacy, all and sundry are cordially invited to come and be educated about the disease
