KNUST: Katanga Hall March against COVID-19, an Affirmation of Positive Dynamism

On Friday, 5th February 2021, the University Hall - Katanga members took to the streets to create an intensive awareness about the need to mask-up and practice all the COVID-19 safety protocols on KNUST campus

Moving out in numbers under their usual FC Friday night, the constituents of the hall were holding banners and flags entreating people to respect the safety protocols and protect the lives and interest of all


WHAT IS FC FRIDAY?

FC Friday is a Flagship program which was instituted by the University Hall, Katanga for addressing social issues bothering students both in KNUST and Ghana as a whole. It’s coming into being was pushed for owing to reforms in the University Rule about embarking on a processions. 

Leadership of the hall had to think of a way to clear off such tags and also address issues bothering students nationwide and this brought the birth of the FC Friday in October 2017.


Katanga on an Educational March

The first edition was necessitated at a time when suicide was becoming rampant in the University campus with people mocking the menace with a “TERTIARY SUICIDE CHALLENGE”. The whole KNUST was brought to a standstill when Katangees stepped out.


Gently dressed in white shirts, black trousers, ties and the yellow and black Katanga arm band for the call of duty to create awareness of the need to end suicide and at the same time, went for a decent procession.



The FC Friday is one thing that Katangees committed all they had, to make a change in our society and its fruits are there to witness.

Neglected Roads, Neglected Students: The Perilous Journey of KNUST Students Off-Campus

A dangerous footbridge students use The roads students ply off-campus, especially Ayeduase, home to many students, have long been a source of frustration and danger.  Despite being a key route for students commuting to and from the university, the condition of those roads has continued to deteriorate, with no plans for improvement in sight. The rainy season exacerbates the situation, transforming the roads into a maze of mud and deep potholes. Students are sometimes seen jumping on stones to avoid messing their shoes. During the dry season, the roads are marred by dust and uneven surfaces, making travel uncomfortable and hazardous.   For students off-campus, this means navigating treacherous paths daily, risking their safety and well-being in the process. Adding to the hazards are the open trenches, unsafe bridges and makeshift wooden structures over gutters. The hilly and rocky terrain further complicates the commute, requiring students to maneuver through challenging landscapes.  As

KNUST BUDGET READING TURNS CHAOTIC  The 16th KNUST SRC Parliamentary budget reading turned chaotic after members objected to the financial secretary’s fundraising and allocations. Sparking tensions among attendees. Members bemoaned low accountability and clarity in how the budget was read. On 3rd March, Mr. Ohenaku Kelvin the KNUST SRC Financial secretary was according to the constitution of the SRC stipulated to appear before the Parliament House and present budget of the 2023/2024 academic year. After reading a 42 page budget, submissions were made on the budget. According to eye witnesses, the chaos started when the speaker of Parliament gave mandate to only caucus heads to give their submissions.
