KNUST: Former SRC WOCOM set to unveil “Women Empowerment Achievements” of the Akufo Addo led government this Friday

Rosemond Obeng, People’s Mother

Rosemond Obeng, popularly known as “The people’s mother” who once was the Women’s Commissioner for the KNUST SRC and politically active for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) which won her recognition as deputy national co-ordinator for TESCON, the student organisation of the New Patriotic Party in 2018.

In the wake of the moment when the people of the Fourth Republic of Ghana prepare to elect government for the next four years on 7 December, the attention is falling increasingly on female leaders – women who continue to script their name in history with their enormous achievements to Ghana.

She in her capacity as the National coordinator for the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) is prepared to give names to the achievements of the ruling party on women empowerment which seems to have little attention.

People’s Mother on Saturday 17 October premiĆØred her programme Interact With People’s Mother, which served as a platform to promote women’s well-being even further.

She stated on her Facebook page that:

“I believe it is in lieu of this that the past year was declared a ‘year of amplification’. Interact With People’s Mother aims to highlight progress made in the empowerment of women in Ghana, and other issues that concern them,”

She declared that the programme will “discuss, digest and explore women’s empowerment initiatives contributing to uplifting Ghanaian women”.

She avers that the show will deflate misconceptions that the ultimate achievement of the women’s empowerment movement is appointing a woman as the vice-presidential candidate of a major political party.

She opined that women should be given a place at the table where decisions are taken, but, even more importantly, that initiatives and programmes by the NPP government which uplift women must also be projected.
